Who is responsible for our editorial content?
Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy holds ultimate authority over all editorial content published on Kelowna Daily. She oversees editorial standards, makes final publication decisions and approves every correction. The Editor-in-Chief reports directly to the publisher, Pacific Ridge Digital Media Inc., but editorial independence is contractually guaranteed: no owner, advertiser or commercial partner may determine editorial conclusions.

How do we distinguish between news, opinion, features, sponsored and affiliate content?
Every piece of content on Kelowna Daily carries a clear label indicating its category: News, Opinion, Feature, Sponsored or Affiliate. These labels appear at the top of each article, adjacent to the headline, and are never hidden or minimised.
- News: Fact-based reporting on municipal affairs, provincial policy, business, culture, community events and Canada-wide stories with Okanagan relevance. News articles are written by a named staff reporter, reviewed by an editor and fact-checked before publication.
- Opinion: Signed columns, editorials and analysis pieces that express the viewpoint of the author or the editorial board. Opinion content is clearly marked with a banner reading “Opinion” and includes a note explaining that the views expressed are those of the author and not necessarily those of Kelowna Daily.
- Features: Longer-form articles that explore topics in depth. Features are written by named contributors, reviewed by an editor and fact-checked. They may include narrative elements but remain grounded in verified facts.
- Sponsored: Content paid for by a third-party advertiser, sponsor or partner. Sponsored content is labelled “Sponsored” in the header, includes the sponsor’s name and contains a clear statement that the content was produced by or on behalf of the sponsor. - Affiliate: Articles that contain affiliate links (links that may earn Kelowna Daily a commission if a reader makes a purchase). Every such article includes a disclosure at the top stating: “This article contains affiliate links. What article-level transparency do we provide?
Every article published on Kelowna Daily includes a byline with the full name of the writer who drafted the piece, the date of publication, and the date of any update or correction. If an article was substantially revised after publication, a note at the bottom explains what changed and why.
Each article also links to our Editorial Policy and includes a link to the writer’s biography on Our Team page. For articles that rely on named sources, we provide hyperlinks to original documents, studies or public records where possible. Anonymous sources are used only in exceptional circumstances, as detailed in our Sources & Standards page, and the reason for anonymity is stated in the article.
How do we maintain editorial independence?
Kelowna Daily is funded through display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships and content licensing. No commercial relationship — whether with an advertiser, sponsor, partner or affiliate — can determine editorial conclusions. Our newsroom operates under a firewall: the editorial team makes all coverage decisions independently, and commercial staff are never involved in editorial meetings.

How do we use AI and automation?
AI-assisted tools may support research, editing, formatting, translation, metadata generation, headline options, summarisation and transcription. However, AI never replaces human editorial judgement. Every piece of published editorial content — including articles, headlines, captions and summaries — is reviewed and approved by a human editor before publication.
AI must never fabricate quotes, sources, interviews, bylines, author experience or expert profiles. Any use of AI in content creation is documented internally, and on request we can disclose which tools were used and for what purpose. What are our attribution and named writer requirements?
Every article published on Kelowna Daily carries the full name of the writer who drafted it. No anonymous bylines or pseudonyms are used. Each writer’s biography, contact information and area of coverage are listed on Our Team.
When an article includes data, quotes or analysis from another source — including government reports, academic studies, press releases or other news organisations — that source is clearly attributed within the article. We use hyperlinks to original sources wherever possible. The name and title of any person quoted in an article is verified before publication by the Standards & Fact-Checking Lead or a designated editor.
What regional standards do we follow?
Kelowna Daily focuses on Kelowna, the Okanagan Valley and British Columbia. Our reporting prioritises local municipal affairs, provincial policy, business, culture, community events and Canada-wide stories with clear Okanagan relevance. We do not report on national or international stories unless they have a direct and meaningful impact on our region.
Our Regional Reporting Policy sets out the geographic scope, source requirements and community engagement standards that guide our coverage. Every reporter assigned to a regional story must be familiar with the local context and, where appropriate, consult with local officials, community leaders or subject-matter experts based in the Okanagan.
How can readers submit a complaint?
Readers who believe an article contains an error, violates our editorial standards or is unfair have a formal route to raise that concern. Complaints should be sent by email to complaints@kelownadaily.com, addressed to the Editor-in-Chief. The complaint must include the article URL, the specific issue identified and, if alleging an error, any supporting evidence or documentation.
All complaints are acknowledged within two business days. The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Standards & Fact-Checking Lead and the relevant section editor, investigates and responds within ten business days. If a correction is warranted, it is published promptly at the bottom of the original article and noted in our corrections log.
