Who oversees tips at Kelowna Daily?
All tips submitted to Kelowna Daily are reviewed by the newsdesk and managed by the Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Andrew Leblanc, under the supervision of Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy. Pacific Ridge Digital Media Inc., a British Columbia corporation (BC Registry Services company number BC1487293), owns and operates this publication from its registered office at Suite 800, 1055 West Georgia Street, Vancouver, BC V6E 3P3.
This means every tip you send enters a professional editorial process. The newsdesk, led by Managing Editor Marc Tremblay, first assesses relevance and public-interest value. If the tip moves forward, Andrew Leblanc and his team verify sources, documents and claims before any story is drafted. Our editorial mission demands that no tip becomes an article without human editorial judgement and fact-checking.
What makes a good tip?
A good tip for Kelowna Daily is a concrete, verifiable piece of information about a local issue, event, development or policy that directly affects people in Kelowna, the Okanagan Valley or British Columbia. We prioritise stories that serve the public interest and that other outlets may overlook.
We are particularly interested in tips about municipal developments — such as zoning changes, council decisions, infrastructure projects or land-use conflicts. Provincial policy stories with Okanagan relevance, business news involving local employers or regional economics, community events with broad cultural significance, and culture pieces that reflect what makes this region distinctive all qualify. If you see a pattern, a discrepancy, an unreported consequence or a hidden cost, that is often the core of a strong tip. Tips that include specific names, dates, document references or direct observation are far more actionable than general concerns.
We do not accept tips that are anonymous vendettas, commercial promotions, personal grievances without public dimension or material that appears to violate the law. If you are unsure whether your tip fits, send it anyway with a brief explanation of why you believe it matters to Kelowna or Okanagan readers.
How do I reach the right team?
You can submit tips directly to tips@kelownadaily.com, which goes to the newsdesk and the Standards & Fact-Checking team. For time-sensitive story ideas or press conference notifications, use newsdesk@kelownadaily.com. Press releases and media advisories should be sent to press@kelownadaily.com.
For general inquiries, contact info@kelownadaily.com. If your tip involves an editorial complaint or potential correction, address it to corrections@kelownadaily.com. Every function email is staffed and reviewed. Please use the most direct address to avoid delays. Do not send tips via social media direct messages — we cannot guarantee they will be captured by our editorial workflow.
What information should I include in my tip?
Include your name and preferred contact method (phone or email). Provide the core fact or observation in one or two sentences, then elaborate with whatever evidence you have: documents, photographs, videos, recordings, links, dates, locations or names of relevant parties. Explain why you believe this is a story of public interest for Kelowna or the Okanagan.
If you are a public official, business owner or organiser, identify your role and your relationship to the subject. If you wish to remain confidential, state that clearly at the outset (see the next section). The more context you give, the faster we can assess the tip. You do not need to write a polished story — just tell us what you know and why it matters.
How does Kelowna Daily verify tips?
Verification is led by Andrew Leblanc, our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, who applies the same protocols used for all published content. Every tip that proceeds to reporting is cross-checked against primary sources, public records, official documents, and independent witnesses or experts. Our Fact-Checking Policy and Sources & Standards page detail this process.
We do not publish any information solely on the basis of a single anonymous source. We require at least two independent sources for factual claims, or one source plus documentary evidence. If you provide documents, we may request permission to verify their authenticity. Fabricated quotes, forged documents or intentionally misleading submissions will be referred to management and may result in a permanent ban from submitting tips.
Can I submit a tip confidentially?
Yes. You may submit tips confidentially by indicating in your email that you wish to remain anonymous to the public. Our newsdesk will still need to know your identity for verification purposes, but we will not disclose your name or identifying details without your explicit consent.
Confidentiality is not guaranteed if the information you provide relates to an ongoing criminal investigation or if a court compels disclosure. For extremely sensitive matters, you may use the encrypted contact options described on our Contact page. Our editorial team, led by Catherine Roy, treats all confidential submissions with the highest professional discretion.
What happens after I submit a tip?
You will receive an automated acknowledgement that your tip was received. The newsdesk reviews tips within two business days. If the tip is selected for further examination, a named reporter or editor may contact you for more details. If we decide not to pursue the tip, you will receive a brief notification.
We cannot commit to publishing every tip, nor can we provide ongoing status updates during a sensitive investigation. If the tip leads to a published story, we will inform you before publication if you requested to be notified. All tips are logged and retained in accordance with our records management policy. If you believe an error was made in a story that resulted from your tip, please contact corrections@kelownadaily.com and refer to our Corrections Policy.
