What happens after a takedown request is received?

The editorial team then investigates the claim, which may involve temporarily removing the disputed content while we assess its validity under Canadian copyright law, fair dealing exceptions and our editorial standards. Catherine Roy, as Editor-in-Chief, makes the final publication decision based on that investigation.
If we determine that the material infringes a valid copyright, we will remove or disable access to it promptly and notify the requesting party. If we determine that the material is lawful — for example, because it falls under fair dealing for news reporting, criticism or research — we will explain our reasoning in writing and may restore the content. In all cases, we notify the party that originally provided the content, if identifiable, and give them an opportunity to respond.
